Here’s a delicious frozen cocktail that’s beyond easy to make homemade: the Pineapple Daiquiri! The daiquiri is one of our favorite cocktails to make at home because it’s so simple. There’s no need to buy a store-bought mix: just a few ingredients come together to make magic! The flavor of this one blew us away: it’s fruity and intriguing, with a hint of lime and orange liqueur to accentuate the tropical pineapple. It’s fast to blend up for a crowd and perfect for entertaining. It became a favorite over here after the first sip!

Ingredients in this pineapple daiquiri

This pineapple daiquiri is a spin of the Classic Daiquiri, a cocktail invented in the 1800’s in Cuba. Many people think of the frozen daiquiri first, but the classic daiquiri isn’t frozen at all: it’s served shaken and strained into a cocktail glass! Frozen daiquiris are made with ice in a blender: they came along later and rose to popularity in the 1990’s.

This pineapple daiquiri is a frozen daiquiri, but its flavor is more sophisticated than you’d expect from a restaurant or a frozen mix. The ingredients you’ll need are:

  • Frozen pineapple
  • White rum
  • Lime juice
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • Simple syrup
  • Ice

Types of rum to use

This pineapple daiquiri recipe calls for white rum, the most common type used in rum drinks and the classic daiquiri. But if you’d like to mix it up, you can change the type of rum! This drink would be great with aged, dark or even coconut rum. Here’s how the flavor changes:

  • White rum has a straightforward rum with a signature fruity finish
  • Aged rum, aka golden or añejo rum, has notes of vanilla, coconut, almond, citrus, or caramel
  • Dark rum has a deep, caramel flavor and notes of cinnamon and spices (see Dark Rum Drinks)
  • Coconut rum or Malibu rum is more like a coconut liqueur: it’s sweetened with a strong coconut flavor. You can use it here for more of a piña colada vibe. Note that it will make a sweeter drink, so you can omit the simple syrup if you like!

Cointreau vs Triple Sec

The ingredient that’s another key to this pineapple daiquiri? The orange liqueur. You can use either Cointreau or Triple Sec, which you might already have on hand if you love a good Margarita. Here’s what to know about these types of liqueurs:

  • Cointreau is a premium orange liqueur with a developed-orange perfume flavor. It has notes of oak and vanilla, which make it taste more sophisticated than Triple Sec.
  • Triple Sec is slightly less refined in flavor than Cointreau: it has a very straightforward orange essence (almost like orange vodka). But either work here!

Blend it up: and double for a party

All you have to do to make a pineapple daiquiri? Blend the fruit with rum, lime juice, Cointreau and simple syrup! (See the quantities below.) Frozen cocktails are some of the easiest drinks to make for parties: they’re easy to multiply and you don’t have to shake them up separately in a cocktail shaker.

Want to make a party size? Press the 2x or 3x button in the recipe below, and increase the quantities based on the size of your blender.
