Why Spanish recipes?
Years ago, I studied in Madrid, Spain during university. At the time, I didn’t know a thing about food! But something about the Spanish food culture piqued my interest. I made it my goal to eat as many new Spanish foods as I could.
And eat I did. I enjoyed Spanish tapas like patatas bravas, pan con tomate, and Spanish tortilla. Plates of Manchego cheese and jamon serrano. Soups like gazpacho and salmorejo. And of course the traditional paella rice dish, cooked for me by my Spanish host mother. I quickly fell in love with this vibrant and flavorful cuisine: and upon returning to America, promptly added making Spanish recipes to my To Do list.
Spanish recipes for entertaining
Today, Spanish recipes feature less in Alex and my everyday meals, and more in our entertaining! After traveling to Spain together, we were struck not only by the food but by the way Spanairds enjoy life around the table. The culture surrounding Spanish tapas is all about lingering around the table, sharing the same food with each other and ejoying time together. And paella is all about eating from a large communal dish with friends and family.
Our favorite Spanish recipes
The Spanish recipes we make most are that traditional celebratory rice dish: paella! Since there are many different “flavors” of paella served in Spain, we have a various paella options. For example, our Simple Vegetable Paella is simple enough for a weeknight dinner: we’ve made it for date nights! It’s vegetarian and full of flavor. On the other hand, this Open Fire Seafood Paella highlights the fresh seafood and is perfect for a backyard party! Our recipe is for 8 and includes instructions for cooking it over an open fire.
We also love having Spanish tapas parties and eating all sorts of small plates with our guests. Usually it’s plates of cheeses and meats, along with some Vegan Patatas Bravas and Vegetables with Romesco Sauce. We’re working on creating more healthy tapas, so stay posted for more easy Spanish recipes for tapas parties!
