Are you a drink person? Alex and I are on a constant quest to find interesting drinks that are healthy alternatives to soda. We found that adding fruit to water brings a subtle flavor that’s ultra refreshing! So have a few fruit infused water recipes that are perfect for entertaining or just everyday use.

Now that it’s summer, we’ve found a really easy way to make a “fancy” drink that’s ultra refreshing and healthy: watermelon cucumber juice! It takes minutes to make and garnished with a little watermelon wedge, it looks beautiful too. And something about the cucumber brings in a spa-like, relaxing vibe. Ready to get started?

How to make watermelon cucumber juice

You don’t need a juicer to make watermelon cucumber juice: just a simple blender and a fine mesh strainer! The concept is that you blend up the watermelon and cucumber, then strain out any of the particulate (watermelon seeds, cucumber skin) with a strainer. What comes out is a seriously refreshing juice that looks beautiful too!

For some reason, cucumber in drinks makes me think of a spa: or at least something ultra relaxing. Anyone else? I must have only had cucumber water in intensely relaxing situations: but something about it gives it a relaxing vibe! Combine this with sweet watermelon, and it’s a perfect match for a hydrating summer drink.

Here’s how to make watermelon cucumber juice:

  • Chill the watermelon. (You can add ice to the ice, but this can water it down so we recommend storing it chilled until you’re ready to make the juce.)
  • Chop the watermelon into cubes. Chop the cucumber into rough slices.
  • Blend the watermelon and cucumber until it becomes liquid. Use the ratio of 1 part cucumber to 8 parts watermelon (we used 4 cups watermelon and ½ cup cucumber).
  • Pour through a fine mesh sieve into a clean container.
  • If you’d like, make little watermelon wedge and cucumber slice garnishes. Enjoy!

What is the nutrition of watermelon?

Another reason to drink watermelon cucumber juice? Watermelon is very healthy! Here are a few of the benefits of drinking your watermelon — it is (source):

  • High in lycopene, an antioxidant. Studies show lycopene could help curb your risk of cancer and diabetes as part of a healthy lifestyle. Watermelon has more lycopene than any other veggie!
  • High in vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium.
  • Hydrating and full of water
  • Very low calorie food and naturally sweet.
