Rosemary cocktail

Got rosemary and want to use it in a cocktail? Great idea! Rosemary is fantastic for adding a fragrant, herbal undertone to drinks. Here’s the best way we’ve found to use it: this rosemary cocktail! It’s all about bubbly, citrusy, herbal flavor, pairing rosemary simple syrup with lemon, vodka, and fizzy soda water. And my is it refreshing! Alex mixed this up and at first sip, I was smitten. Here’s how to make a cocktail with fresh rosemary!

What’s in this rosemary cocktail?

This rosemary cocktail is similar to a gin fizz or Tom Collins, but with vodka instead of gin. Or, you could see it as a vodka tonic with rosemary. Either way, it’s 100% delicious! The best way to add rosemary flavor to a cocktail is making a simple syrup with the fresh herb. It’s hard to get much flavor out of its pine-like needles by just muddling it, so a custom simple syrup is the way to go. Here’s what’s in this rosemary cocktail:

  • Rosemary simple syrup
  • Vodka
  • Lemon juice
  • Soda water

How to make rosemary simple syrup

The only part of this rosemary cocktail that takes much effort is making the special simple syrup. Otherwise, you can simply build the drink in the glass (like these easy cocktails). Here’s what you’ll need to know about making Rosemary Simple Syrup:

  • It takes about 20 to 25 minutes total. So, plan ahead! You’ll need to make up a batch before you plan to serve your cocktails.
  • Use equal parts water and sugar. The recipe makes 10 tablespoons, which makes about 6 of these rosemary cocktails. If you’re entertaining and need more, make a double recipe.
  • Bring to a simmer with rosemary, then remove heat and sit for 20 minutes. This allows the flavor of the herb to infuse into the syrup.
  • Strain and refrigerate. Strain out the rosemary and you’re good to go! You can store the syrup for 1 month refrigerated.

How to make this rosemary cocktail…mix it right in the glass!

This rosemary cocktail is beautifully herbal and zingy, with a refreshing bubbly flair. The best part about it? You barely need to work to make it. You can mix it right in the glass, which makes it ultra easy. Here’s what to know:

  • Pour in the simple syrup, vodka and lemon, then top off with bubbles. It’s that easy!
  • Want to serve for a crowd? Make 4 drinks by combining 1 cup vodka, 1/2 cup lemon juice, and 6 tablespoons rosemary simple syrup. Then add a scant 1/2 cup of the mix to each glass and top with 1/4 cup soda water.
  • Dress it up with clear ice! Clear ice is artisanal ice that’s crystal clear: and you can make it in your own freezer! It makes the drink look like it’s from a fancy bar. Go to How to Make Clear Ice.
