Here’s a sunny fruit smoothie recipe with a tropical, creamy flavor: the mango pineapple smoothie! I’ve been on a mission to make deliciously healthy smoothie recipes with just about every fruit and vegetable, and this one is a bright spot.

Sweet mango pairs perfectly with tropical pineapple in a creamy, icy puree. One taste of this sweet-and-tangy blend, and you’ll want to make it on repeat!

Ingredients in a Mango Pineapple Smoothie

This mango pineapple smoothie is refreshingly sweet-tart. There’s no fruit juice or loads of added sugar in this recipe. It’s naturally sweet from the fruit and sweetened naturally with a hint of honey. It’s creamy thanks to Greek yogurt, which also packs a protein punch. Here are a few notes on the ingredients you need:

  • Frozen diced mango: It’s easy in the frozen section at your grocery store. You can also use fresh mango if you swap in a frozen banana and/or frozen pineapple.
  • Fresh pineapple: Fresh pineapple has the best flavor and texture to make this smoothie sing. It’s usually easy to find pineapple sold cut into rings in the produce section, if you prefer.
  • Banana: There’s no need to freeze the banana in this recipe. This supporting character makes for a delightfully creamy texture.
  • Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt rounds out the creaminess and adds both protein and probiotics.
  • Milk: You’ll need liquid in order to blend all the ingredients. Use your favorite dairy or non-dairy milk, or even water will work.
  • Maple syrup or honey (optional): You shouldn’t need an extra sweetener if the fruit is ripe. But if you have a pineapple or a banana that isn’t ripe and juicy, add a small drizzle of natural sweetener to enhance the flavors.

Use Fresh Pineapple With Frozen Mango

Do you have a fresh mango or frozen pineapple? This smoothie recipe is customizable and works well with at least one frozen fruit to balance out the fresh fruits. You can use the following combinations:

  • Fresh pineapple and frozen mango are the best choices, with either a room-temperature or frozen banana.
  • Fresh mango and frozen pineapple also work well together.
  • Both frozen pineapple and frozen mango can become very icy in the blender, but you can try adding more liquid to help them blend.
  • Both fresh pineapple and mango can work, but will have a less icy texture. To compensate, use a frozen banana and increase the ice to about 1 to 1 ½ cups of ice.

Mix-ins to Try

Want to change up this mango pineapple smoothie with mix-ins instead? There are a few additions that go well with the tropical flavors! Here are a few ways to accentuate the tropical flavors:

  • Coconut: Coconut pairs well with these flavors! Throw in a handful of shredded coconut, or use coconut milk for part or all of the liquid.
  • Basil or mint: Adding fresh herbs makes the flavors more intriguing.
  • Almond or cashew butter: Adding nut butter increases the protein to make it more filling.
  • Chia seeds: Chia seeds also add a good dose of fiber and protein; add up to 2 tablespoons to this smoothie

Vegan Variation

Want to make this into a vegan mango pineapple smoothie recipe? Use your favorite non-dairy milk to substitute for the milk and the Greek yogurt. My favorite to use in smoothies is oat milk because it has a rich, creamy texture and a neutral flavor. You could also use a vegan yogurt if you have a brand you love.

It’s also nice to add back some protein to keep the smoothie filling; my favorite plant-based protein to add to vegan smoothies is chia seeds.
