Why mix tequila and pineapple juice

Why mix tequila with pineapple juice? Well, it’s just that good! Pineapple juice is a stellar cocktail mixer because of its aggressive sweet tart flavor. It holds up perfectly to the tequila, which adds a spicy bite to the finish of each sip.

We’ve been on a kick of finding the best ways to mix tequila. Pineapple juice is a top favorite (as is lemonade). It comes together in a flash and you can make it look like it’s a legit craft cocktail. Here’s how…

Step it up: add garnishes (or bitters)

Want to turn tequila and pineapple into a fancy cocktail? First of all: you absolutely don’t have to. It’s delicious on its own. But if you’re up for classing it up, here are a few options:

  • Add clear ice! It’s crystal clear ice that you can cut into organic shapes, making it look much more impressive than cloudy ice from a try. Here’s how to make clear ice!
  • Add garnishes. A sprig of fresh mint is lovely, or add lime wedges. (Give them a squeeze before you add them.
  • Shake in a few dashes bitters. Cocktail bitters give a drink extraordinary complexity.

The tequila to use

Of course, with a drink this simple, use whatever tequila you have on hand! But if you’re looking for our recommendations, here’s what to know about types of tequila:

  • Tequila reposado (aged) adds oaky vanilla notes. That’s another way to step up this drink! Aged tequila adds a hint of sophistication. It’s our top tequila for margaritas.
  • Tequila blanco (unaged) works too; look for a mid-range bottle. We like Patron Silver, and it’s great in this Patron Margarita.

Or, make a pineapple margarita!

This tequila and pineapple juice cocktail is just two ingredients away from a Pineapple Margarita. Add Cointreau and lime juice, and you’ve got the classic cocktail done up with a fruity twist. Or try our Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita, which has a hint of heat on the finish. Your call!
