When it comes to strawberry soda, there are loads of brands you can find at the store. But why not try it homemade? This strawberry soda is sweetly refreshing, pairing a spray of bubbles with the sweet berry flavor of homemade strawberry syrup.

Alex and I had some leftover strawberries that inspired this recipe, and now we love to make it as a mocktail variation of our strawberry vodka cocktail, great for kids or people avoiding alcohol. Here’s how to make this tasty drink!

What you need for strawberry soda

Homemade strawberry soda is easy to whip up at home: a berry syrup makes the “strawberry” and club soda makes the “soda.” Here’s what you need to have on hand to make each part:

  • Strawberries
  • Sugar
  • Club soda
  • Lemon

Tips for making homemade strawberry syrup

You can substitute purchased strawberry syrup in a pinch to make strawberry soda. But it’s not nearly as tasty as the brilliant berry flavor of homemade syrup! Plus, it’s more fun to make your own. Here are a few tips for the process:

  • Making the syrup takes about 15 minutes. You’ll simply cook down berries with sugar, then strain them through a fine mesh sieve.
  • You can use it right away. Don’t want to wait for it to cool? That’s ok! Since you’re serving your drink with ice, you can use the syrup before it cools down.
  • Or, make it in advance! The easiest way to assemble this drink is to make the syrup in advance.

Building strawberry soda in the glass

This strawberry soda is easy to mix up in the serving glass. In fact, we recommend doing this versus mixing up a pitcher. The club soda can go flat if it sits out in a pitcher for too long. To ensure you’ve got the most bubbles, build the drink right in the glass! Here’s how to do it:

  • Mix the syrup with a little soda water. This helps the syrup to dissolve.
  • Add the remaining soda water and a squeeze of lemon. Mix it a little with a straw to get it to combine.
  • Add ice and garnish with lemon wedges. Add a cute straw, if you like!

Step it up with clear ice

The best way to step up strawberry soda? Make a batch of clear ice! Clear ice is crystal clear ice that you can cut into organic shapes. It makes a stunning drink that looks like one you’d get in a fancy bar. It takes just 24 hours to make in a small cooler. Here’s how to make clear ice!
