Here’s how to make a Casamigos margarita: a spin this classic cocktail using the smoothest tequila around!
Got a bottle of Casamigos tequila? The best way to drink it is sipping it neat, of course. But the next best way is the Casamigos Margarita! The extra smooth tequila makes one killer margarita, with hints of vanilla and caramel on finish. All you need are orange liqueur and lime juice to make the most balanced, tangy sweet and salty cocktail you’ve ever had.
Ingredients in a Casamigos margarita
The margarita is a classic cocktail invented in Mexico in the 1930’s, and it remains one of the most popular cocktails of all time. A Classic Margarita has just 3 ingredients: tequila, triple sec and lime juice. The Casamigos margarita uses Casamigos tequila, and the mixture of zingy, sweet and salty is a truly spectacular pairing with the ultra-smooth tequila. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Casamigos tequila: we like their Tequila Reposado best, but it works with Tequila Blanco
- Cointreau or Triple Sec
- Lime juice
- Kosher salt or flaky salt, for the rim
More about Casamigos
The Casamigos brand of tequila launched in 2013 by George Clooney and nightclub owner Rande Gerber on a quest to make the “best tasting, smoothest tequila.” On the whole, they’ve achieved that with the brand, which was bought by Diageo in 2017 for nearly a billion dollars.
Casamigos tequila is on the sweet side for a tequila, with notes of vanilla on the finish. The Casamigos Tequila Resposado is our favorite: 7 months of aging give it complex notes of oak and tropical fruit, which make for an interesting margarita.
Step it up: clear ice & a salt rim
The Casamigos margarita, like any margarita, requires a salt rim for the best pop of flavor. (What’s a margarita without salt, anyway?) But want to make the best presentation? Add clear ice! Here’s what to know:
- Clear ice is crystal clear ice made in large blocks or chunks (contrast it with cloudy ice from an ice maker). It’s what bars use to make drinks look fancy.
- You can make clear ice at home! Use this Clear Ice Tutorial, using a small cooler or a clear ice tray.
Serve a crowd: the Casamigos margarita pitcher
If you’re entertaining, shaking up drinks to order can take all night. The solution? Try a Casamigos margarita pitcher! For 8 servings, place the following in a pitcher:
- 1 ½ cups Casamigos Tequila
- 1 cup Cointreau or Triple Sec
- ¾ cup lime juice
- 3 handfuls ice
Stir it together, and you’ve got 8 drinks in 5 minutes! Make sure to add the exact amount of ice: it dilutes the drinks just enough.
