The first time I experimented with pomegranate juice in cocktails, I was blown away by how perfectly it balanced sweet and tart flavors. Whether you’re using store-bought 100% juice or squeezing your own with fresh arils, pomegranate brings a brightness to mixed drinks that’s hard to match.

As a cocktail expert and certified mixologist, I’ve found that pomegranate juice works beautifully in classic cocktails. Add it to a Margarita and it’s the perfect balance to tequila and lime! Even the classic Mimosa is better with a bit of vibrant juice! The recipes below are ones I return to again and again.

Choosing your pomegranate juice

Each of these pomegranate cocktails is versatile: you can use bottled juice from the store, or pomegranate seeds to make your own juice! Here are a few things to note before you shop:

  • Try to find 100% juice. Pomegranate juice is sold sweetened and unsweetened. Try to find the 100% juice version! It tastes better and all our drinks are customized to this type of juice.
  • Even better, make your own! Pomegranate juice is easy to make from the fresh seeds: you’ll just need to mash them with a cocktail muddler and then strain out the juice. Head to How to Cut a Pomegranate and How to Make Pomegranate Juice.

Serving suggestions for pomegranate cocktails

These pomegranate cocktails work beautifully in various settings and pair well with different types of food. If it’s a holiday party, the Pomegranate Gin Fizz is the perfect drink!

For brunch gatherings, the Pomegranate Mimosa is obviously great alongside breakfast recipes like smoked salmon toast or egg dishes.

During cocktail hour, the Pomegranate Margarita pairs with Mexican-style appetizers and finger foods. I often serve it alongside chips with restaurant-style salsa or guacamole. The Pomegranate Cosmo and Pomegranate Martini are great for more formal gatherings and work beautifully with cheese boards or an antipasto platter.

For dinner parties, I find the Pomegranate Mojito is versatile and complements everything from grilled meats to seafood to vegetarian mains.

Is there a way to make this without alcohol? Maybe you could do a post on some mixed drinks that are nonalcoholic but not just fruit juice either?

Sub orange juice for the Cointreau and use imitation Tequila from drinkfreespirits.com, I did both and it came out good
