Here’s a fascinating cocktail with a fun name, intriguing flavor and eye-catching color: the Incredible Hulk drink! I’ve found that this combination of Hpnotiq and Hennessy is weirdly satisfying, with notes of passionfruit and mango that mix with oak and vanilla.
It’s one of the most unique cocktails I’ve had: and it’s absolutely worth grabbing a bottle of Hpnotiq to try it out. At least, if you’re like me and always game for trying a new type of liquor!
What Is the Incredible Hulk Drink?
The Incredible Hulk is a lowball cocktail made with Hpnotiq and Hennessy, invented in 2003 in New York City. At a Hpnotiq launch party at the restaurant Justin’s, the brand rep noticed that mostly women were drinking the spirit, not men. The bartender Victor Alvarez decided to mix the blue liqueur with Hennessy to create a more “manly” drink, and the Incredible Hulk was born.
The drink tastes fruity with strong notes of passionfruit from the Hpnotiq, paired with the oaky, vanilla and caramel notes from the Hennessy. It’s reminiscent of a fruity spin on the Stinger, a classic cocktail from the 1890’s that pairs Cognac and creme de menthe.
The Two Ingredients You Need
Hpnotiq (pronounced “Hypnotic”) is a sky blue liqueur invented in 2001, made with fruit juice, vodka and Cognac. It became popular when rapper Sean Combs started to sell it in his restaurant chain Justin’s in New York, and it’s been featured in popular hip hop and rap lyrics.
It tastes sweet, with strong notes of passionfruit and mango and a subtly bitter finish. It is 17% ABV (30 proof), so it’s a low-alcohol spirit (vs 40% like rum, vodka, and whiskey). You can also use it to make cocktails like a Hpnotiq Breeze!
Hennessy is a type of Cognac, a brandy made in Cognac, France. The Hennessy company was founded over 250 years ago in 1765 in France. Today it produces 40% of the world’s Cognac, making it the largest producer of Cognac worldwide.
It has a bold flavor, with notes of nuttiness, fruit, oak, vanilla and spices. It’s very complex, and makes for an intriguing balance to Hpnotiq in the Incredible Hulk.
How to Make the Incredible Hulk Drink
The method is so simple! Here’s what to do:
- Fill a lowball (rocks) glass with ice.
- Pour in 2 ounces of Hpnotiq and 2 ounces of Hennessy.
- Stir gently to combine.
- Garnish with a plum slice, if desired (to bring in those Incredible Hulk colors!).
How The Ratio Affects The Color
The Incredible Hulk drink was invented as an equal parts cocktail, that mixes equal parts Hpnotiq and Hennessy. But you’ll notice when you do so, it’s got a brown-ish green color. Not exactly what we were expecting!
- Equal parts Hpnotiq and Hennessy has great flavor, but makes a drab green color. It’s the best balance flavor-wise. But the color may be less vibrant than you’d expect from the drink name.
- You can add a bit more Hpnotiq to brighten the color. This adds sweetness and fruity notes, so keep that in mind! We’d recommend starting with 2.5 ounces Hpnotiq. Taste and adjust as necessary.
