Happy holiday season! If you’re anything like me, you approach the gift giving enterprise with a bit of fear and trepidation. I’m not a natural at gifting, so every year it’s a little painful finding just the right thing for family and friends. I also worry about erring more on the side of consumerism and tradition than thoughtful, joy-filled giving. Anyone else feel me?
Much as I’ve wanted to give up gift-giving altogether, I’ve realized a special gift can be just as much as sign of love as time together or a special conversation. This year, Alex and I are focusing on quality, not quantity in our gifting: focusing on finding items that are truly special, be it homemade or purchased.
And for you, we’ve created a few tools to help connect you to special items for your loved ones: like our new gift shop! It’s a compilation of our favorite essential kitchen tools and cookooks perfect for the home cooks and foodies in your life. We also have a few posts coming up about some special items we love that have great stories behind them.
Below are a few of our favorite items from the shop, to give you a little preview!
Note: A Couple Cooks gets a small percentage of the proceeds from the gift shop. Thanks for supporting us so we can continue to do what we do!
If you have a coffee lover in your life, they must try the Chemex. This is hands down the best coffee we’ve ever tasted. It takes about 15 minutes, but it’s become our weekend morning ritual.
This simple storage keeps fresh herbs for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator, instead of allowing them to get brown and mushy in the plastic bag from the store. We use this all the time and love it.
This heavy-duty pot is perfect for hearty soups and stews throughout the winter.
This is our #1 tool for the kitchen – a good chef’s knife. We also have a post coming up to share our favorite home grown, hand-crafted knives.
We use this soda maker to carbonate anything in our refrigerator. Our favorite is water with a bit of lemon and lime; Alex just made sparkling apple cider and it was fabulous. We use it as an alternative to soft drinks, and it’s delicious.
Making pizza at home is such fun, and a pizza stone is essential to getting that crispy crust! We couldn’t live without ours (notice that it is cracked, haha!). You can also use it for making bread (see below).
Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day
Our friend Zoë created this fabulous method for baking bread at home that is so easy and delicious. We gave this book to my parents and they absolutely love it; they’ve been making bread constantly.
Green Mango Cafe Cookbook
We wrote this book 2 years ago when we travelled to Cambodia to visit a cooking school for at-risk women. The school trains them in vocational skills to help break the cycle of poverty and fight human trafficking. All proceeds go to the program. We’d be so excited if you chose to gift this to someone you love!
