“Healthy dessert” is kind of an oxymoron, right? A dessert should be a treat, not a health food! When it comes to healthy eating, it’s hard to know how to handle sweets. Here’s what works for us: our motto is all things in moderation. Indulgent desserts should be on limits as part of a healthy diet, so they don’t become a forbidden luxury. And at the same time, we love creating lighter versions of desserts: desserts made with whole foods and nutrient rich ingredients that feel like decadent treats. So that’s where our “sweet spot” is: healthy desserts that maximize both flavor and whole food ingredients.
Our healthy dessert recipes have calories and sugar and fat. But they’re carefully crafted to bring in whole ingredients that are rich in nutrients and leave you satisfied. None of our dessert recipes have processed ingredients. And most of them won’t leave you with a sugar crash (as long as you don’t eat the whole pan!).
Bliss bites are our most popular dessert recipe, and a perfect example of what healthy dessert means to us. They’re a vegan no bake cookie made with all whole foods: peanut butter, cocoa powder, maple syrup, coconut oil, and oats. They’re simple to make at home and made by people all over the world. A version of this recipe even made it into our cookbook, Pretty Simple Cooking. Basically a cross between a no bake cookie and a peanut butter cup, people go crazy over them (ourselves included!). They’re sweet, rich, satisfying, and healthy…ish!
