Holiday Fair Trade Giveaway!

Fair Trade

In the spirit of holiday giving, we are excited to bring you a giveaway from one of our favorite organizations. The good people over at Fair Trade USA partnered with us a few months ago for a giveaway, and now are back offering an incredible line-up of delicious products as a holiday treat for you all! (Truly — this one’s a jackpot!)

We love Fair Trade USA because they’re all about what we’re passionate about too — fair and just treatment of all people and the Earth. As we mentioned in our last post about Fair Trade, we didn’t always think about our purchasing power and what it was supporting. Most often, we made decisions to purchase things based only on price. But after learning more about where products come from and how they are made (as well as travelling to somewhere like Cambodia and understanding more about labor exploitation), we’ve gradually changed to trying to use our “purchasing power” to support things we believe in.

So, what better to think about in this holiday season than gifts that give back? Fair Trade USA has a wonderful Holiday Gift Guide, with all sorts of products from chocolate to apparel to body care to wine. Check them out for some great gift ideas.

And, on a semi-related note, we’ll be selling our benefit cookbook for Cambodia tonight (Thursday, December 12, starting at 6:00 pm) at City Market in Indianapolis for Yelp’s Totally Bazaar – come check it out for a huge lineup of local vendors for holiday shopping!

A huge thanks to Allison at Fair Trade USA for the awesome lineup of products below:

TCHO SeriousMilk Chocolate Discs 39% - These discs are perfect for baking cooking and snacking. Malty with a rich mouthful of caramel and cream lightened with hints of honey suckle and vanilla.

Alter Eco Dark Coconut Toffee Chocolate Bar - This organic and Fair Trade Certified chocolate bar is crunchy and toasted, with a chewy bit and a smooth buttery finish

Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice - The sweet, creamy flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg make Pumpkin Spice just right for fall’s crisper days and cooler nights.

Glory Bee Fair Trade Honey - The honey produced in the Caatinga (scrub forests) of Brazil is like none produced anywhere else. Its rich, complex flavor carries the essence of this region in every spoonful.

Rishi Pu-Erh Ginger Tea - The zesty notes of orange and ginger complement the rich, smooth flavors of Pu-erh in this organic and Fair Trade blend.

I am going to make the country bread from your blog when I have a free morning at home, hopefully the weekend before Christmas.

This is pretty classic, but I’ve never made one: a cassoulet. I’m hoping to make one before the new year begins.

There are so many new recipes I always want to try out! I just tried out a new gingerbread recipe, and a new eggnog recipe. I’d like to make an apple tart.

I’ve always wanted to try making gingerbread. This is the year I will finally do it and stop with the Starbucks gingerbread.

I am having a hard time this holiday season because I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. So I am searching for recipes I’m allowed to eat! I think at this point I am most excited to find recipes for sweets that I can eat one of and not kill the amount of carbs I’m supposed to have.

At Thanksgiving, I tried a new stuffing/dressing recipe: Italian Chard and Sausage Stuffing. It was a huge hit! And I especially loved that I used chard from my garden!

I’m loving all the peppermint recipes I’m seeing lately – I would love to try some bars or cookies but I haven’t decided yet :)
